why bislig is a must-see

Why Bislig is a must-see

The road to Bislig is a long one–and still not cemented. I found out during one sunny Sunday afternoon, when all the bumps gave me a dizzy sensation that made me wonder if I was traveling a never-ending highway. Daylight was fading when the wheels of the pick-up truck finally touched the concrete path. And at last, our destination was close by.

Bislig is near the southernmost tip of Surigao del Sur. It became a chartered city on September 18, 2000. My visit lasted barely a day and a half, which I am told isn’t enough to be acquainted with the place. Still, I felt as if time stood still when I saw two of Bislig’s most attractive spots. They made me want to stay forever.

the last two lines of this excerpt made me smile. i feel the same every ime i go home. more of his article here:

Dua23’s World on Bislig

here’s a heartwarming entry about bislig from Darwin Dua of http://dua23.blogspot.com:

My hometown is Mangagoy Bislig City, Surigao del Sur A place where people are friendly and very much hospitable. In this article of mine I want to show to the whole world what beauty of nature my hometown can offer.

This is the Lawigan Beach Resort no one can imagine that this Boracay look a like beach is found in my hometown. Lawigan Beach Resort is located at Barangay Lawigan Mangagoy Bislig City. 1hr. away from the city, You can travelled it by a land using the local motorcycle ride called Habal-habal or by the sea using a pamboat. And after long hour of ride you will enjoy its whitesand beach and crystal blue water.

Pilgrim’s Notions: Taften Summer Getaway

dunah.blogspot.com listed Tinuy-an and Hagonoy as part of her top ten summer getaway. here’s an excerpt:

Summer na naman! Sarap na sanang pumunta sa beach. Unfortunately, I still have final exams until the 28th of April. How cool is that? :) So, I might as well content myself with listing my fave getaways and try to relive the moment. You might get some ideas for your own summer escapades.

P.S.
As soon as I have the time, I’ll try to draft a brief backgrounder about each destination. For now, just content yourself with the pictures.

1. Tinuy-an Falls, Bislig, Surigao del Sur

she has wonderful pics of other sites to go to as well. check her site for more:

supertikoy13 : Backpacking Bislig

wonderful pics despite the bad dusk light from a backpacker named supertikoy13.  got this from here:

Only salvage a few photos since we traveled most of the day. Atleast I got a chance to take some photos of the Tinuy-an Falls. Low light, very hard to shoot with out a tripod.

Is Bislig City safe for travel?

An American traveller asks..

So I’m traveling to Philippines soon and I gotta say, I’m a little nervous. I’ve hear a lot of bad stories about the southern part of Philippines. But some friends want me to visit so I agreed. They live in Bislig City, and the parent to whom I really want to meet, aren’t really willing to travel to Davao which I know is a safer area sorta… But I would really like to know what you think. Thanks in advance.

nathadale.blogspot.com: escape to bislig

excerpt from

http://nathadale.blogspot.com/2009/02/escape-to-bislig.html

The famous place to go to Bislig is the Tinuy-an Falls the so called Niagara Falls of the Philippines. It’s the best falls I have ever seen so far. You will truly love its beauty. Caves for exploring are also in abundance in this place. If you want the beach you can just cross to neighboring islands where the beach is alluring. Marine foods are also in abundance. I enjoyed eating crabs, shrimps and 1st class fish. Since they are in abundance, their prices are also low and we brought back enough when we went home. It was great to be in Bislig. It’s quiet and untouched and the people are warm.

michaelbauzon.com – memories of bislig

from http://www.michaelbauzon.com:

have you ever wondered where the city got its unique name? I asked a friend from Bislig and she told me that the word came from “Best Legs”! The water bursted out my mouth! I thought she was just kidding. According to the “legend” a foreigner who visited the place remarked “Wow! Best legs!” as he saw the beautiful legs of the women passing by. The word “best legs” spread like wildfire and later became “bislig” as locals had the difficulty in pronouncing the words.
